At the beginning of September, the Yukon Fish and Game Association organized 3 salmon recovery trips that are funded by the Yukon Rive Panel. Biologist Nick Degraff along with some YFGA members went into the Michie Creek and M’Clintock River areas to measure and sample spent carcasses of the spawned salmon.

The trips were quite successful, with the following salmon collected:

Sampled from M’Clintock River (M’Clintock Falls to Michie Creek confluence)
• 11 live adult Chinook
• 10 salmon redds
• 7 spent Chinook carcasses (5 hatchery origin)

Sampled from Michie Creek (Michie Lake outlet to Byng Creek Confluence)
• < 50 adult Chinook
• 73 salmon redds
• 22 spent Chinook carcasses or remains sampled (17 Coded Wire tags collected

The Yukon Fish and Game Association would like to thank volunteers Stewart & Irene Breithaupt, Dennis Zimmerman, Reba Miller, Richard Gau, and Doug Phillips. We would also like to thank Doug Hogan, Lawrence Vano, Greg Guttman, Rick Ferguson and the Department of Fisheries & Oceans and the Yukon River Panel for providing the funding for this project.
